High Wind Warning
Issued: 4:09 PM AKDT Apr. 24, 2018 – National Weather Service

... High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM akdt this
evening for east Anchorage Turnagain Arm and the hillside...

* location... east Anchorage and other areas right along the
mountains as well as Turnagain Arm and the hillside.

* Wind... along Turnagain Arm and the Upper Hillside, southeast
winds 50 to 65 mph with gusts to 90 mph. For east Anchorage and
the lower hillside, southeast winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts to
60 mph. The rest of Anchorage, southeast winds 15 to 30 with
gusts to 45 mph.

* Timing... winds have reached their peak late this afternoon and
will begin to diminish below warning level by this evening,
although gusty winds are expected to persist through Tuesday
night.

* Impacts... travel may be difficult. Trees may be blown over.
Loose debris can be moved and damage property.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. People are urged to secure loose objects that could
be blown around or damaged by the wind.
