Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 5:24 PM MDT Sep. 19, 2018 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a

* small stream flood advisory for...
east central Pima County in southeastern Arizona...
northwestern Cochise County in southeastern Arizona...

* until 715 PM MST.

* At 521 PM MST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
areas of heavy rainfall which had resulted in some small stream
flooding and ponding of water on roadways. This advisory area
extended from around Corona de Tucson east to the Texas Canyon
area and Willcox.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Willcox, Green Valley, Sahuarita, Benson, East Sahuarita,
Cochise, Muleshoe ranch preserve, Dragoon, I-10 and Texas Canyon,
Saint David, Corona de Tucson and Cascabel.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 10 between mile markers 282 and 365.
Interstate 19 between mile markers 31 and 49.
Route 80 between mile markers 293 and 304.
Route 83 between mile markers 38 and 58.
Route 90 between mile markers 290 and 301.
Route 186 between mile markers 327 and 342.
Route 191 between mile markers 55 and 91.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

* small stream flood advisory for...
east central Pima County in southeastern Arizona...

* until 700 PM MST.

* At 455 PM MST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
heavy rain which will cause small stream flooding in the advisory
area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Green Valley and areas west of Green Valley including areas around
alter wash.

This includes Route 286 between mile markers 18 and 35.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of washes
and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying spots.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* all of Southeast Arizona.

* Through 11 PM MST this evening

* expect numerous showers with scattered thunderstorms capable of
producing heavy rainfall and flash flooding at times into this
evening.

* Areas along washes, small streams and drainages plus wildfire
areas such as the Frye burn scar will be susceptible to
flooding. Low water crossings and poorly drained roads may
become impassable. Rural and dirt roads may also become washed
out at times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are becoming favorable
for widespread flash flooding to develop. Monitor forecasts
closely and be ready to take quick action if flash flood warnings
are issued.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize
the dangers of flash floods. If flash flooding is observed... act
quickly. Turn around and take another Route.
