Mendocino Coast
Forecasts for California  |   Return to US Severe Weather
Special Weather Statement
Expires 9:30 AM EDT on July 07, 2008

Statement as of 4:01 PM PDT on July 6, 2008

... Very hot weather expected across the interior...

Northwest California will experience a significant heat wave
beginning on Monday. Temperatures will climb each day through at
least mid week... and reach 100 to 105 degrees or higher in many
of the inland valleys Tuesday through Thursday. High temperatures
near 110 degrees will be possible on Tuesday and Wednesday in the
hottest inland valleys of del norte... Humboldt... Trinity and
Mendocino counties.

Coastal areas will also experience warmer than normal
temperatures. Weak offshore flow will allow high temperatures in
the coastal zones to reach the upper 60s to near 80.

It will be hot. Stay indoors as much as possible during the warmest
part of the day. If you have to work or plan on any recreational
activities outdoors... drink plenty of water... wear light colored
clothing and take frequent breaks from the sun. Do not leave pets
or children inside closed vehicles. Heat can affect anyone.
However... children... the elderly... people with medical
conditions... and those engaged in strenuous outdoor activities
will be the ones most impacted by the hot weather.

Fire Weather Watch
Expires 2:00 AM EDT on July 10, 2008

Statement as of 2:37 PM PDT on July 6, 2008

The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a Fire Weather
Watch... which is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through
Wednesday evening.

Temperatures will rise to the triple digits Monday through
Wednesday as an impressive upper level ridge develops over the
region. North to northeast winds will develop by Tuesday and
filter drier air across interior regions where fuels are already
critically dry. Sustained winds will be around 10 mph with gusts
of 20 mph possible over ridges and in canyons. Ridge tops will be
most vulnerable to the critical fire conditions as daytime
relative humidities will likely drop to the mid teens.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
red flag warnings.
