Special Weather Statement
... Very hot temperatures expected this week...
High pressure developing over the central Pacific will build east
and strengthen this week... bringing very hot conditions to much
of California. There is the potential for near record high
temperatures during the middle of the upcoming week. The marine
layer will be confined to the immediate coast which will even
allow for inland coastal areas to warm to much above normal.
On Monday... desert temperatures will reach 105 degrees. Temperatures
in the Lower Mountain and Interior Valley locations will rise to
near 100 degrees... while temperatures will top out near 90
degrees across inland coastal sections.
On Tuesday... valley and mountain areas will warm additionally...
with temperatures approaching or exceeding 105 degrees in the
warmest locations. In the Antelope Valley... highs may approach 110
degrees. Across coastal sections... temperatures will generally
range from the 70s at the beaches... to around 90 inland... with
foothill locations likely approaching 100 degrees. Heat index
values will likely exceed 100 degrees on Tuesday in the
Valley... Mountain... and desert locations.
The high pressure system will move little Wednesday... and
maximum temperatures will be very similar to those on Tuesday.
There is a chance... however... that it will be more humid which
will make it feel warmer.
Hot and humid conditions will persist into Friday. Though
afternoon high temperatures may decrease... heat index values
will likely remain above 100 degrees.
The increase in monsoonal moisture will bring a slight chance of
thunderstorms to the mountains and deserts from Wednesday through
Friday.
People should never leave children or animals in parked vehicles
even with the windows cracked... death will likely result. Continue
to drink plenty of fluids... stay out of the sunshine... and check
relatives and neighbors.
