Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 11:04 AM MST Jan. 18, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MST this
evening...

* what... snow. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches across
the higher elevations with 4 to 7 inches across the lower
elevations. Locally higher amounts are possible, particularly on
west facing slopes. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

* Where... Saguache County west of Continental Divide below 10000
feet, eastern San Juan Mountains above 10000 feet, western
Mosquito Range and East Lake County above 11000 feet, La
Garita Mountains above 10000 feet, eastern sawatch mountains
above 11000 feet, western Chaffee County between 9000 and
11000 feet and Lake County below 11000 feet.

* When... until 8 PM MST this evening.

* Additional details... plan on slick and snowpacked Road
conditions, particularly across Wolf Creek and Monarch passes.
Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will
cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads
and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Avalanche Warning
Issued: 7:55 AM MST Jan. 18, 2019 – National Weather Service

The following message is transmitted at the request of the
Colorado avalanche information center.

Avalanche warning for the San Juan Mountains, Grand Mesa, Gunnison,
Aspen, sawatch, and Steamboat zones.

* Timing: in effect from 6 am MST Friday through 8 am Saturday

* affected areas: Park Range, Flat Top mountains, Mosquito Range,
Sawatch Range, Elk Mountains, Ruby Range, West Elk Mountains,
Grand Mesa, San Juan Mountains, La Garita Mountains

* avalanche danger: backcountry avalanche danger is high

* reason: heavy snowfall and strong winds have fallen on a very weak
snowpack. Avalanche conditions are very dangerous. Natural and
human-triggered avalanches are very likely, and will be large
enough to bury a person.

* Precautionary/preparedness actions: backcountry travel in or
below avalanche terrain is not recommended.
