... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Illinois, Iowa, and northeast Missouri, including
the following areas, in Illinois, Hancock, Henderson, Henry
IL, McDonough, Mercer, Rock Island, and Warren. In Iowa, Des
Moines, Henry IA, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine,
Scott, Van Buren, and Washington. In northeast Missouri, Clark
and Scotland.

* Through Thursday morning

* storms will be capable of high rainfall rates due to high
moisture levels in the atmosphere.

* The area of greatest risk is south of a line from Sigourney,
Iowa to Monmouth, Illinois. Here storms may move over the same
areas later tonight and produce 1 to 3 inches of rain in a
short time period.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible.
Monitor forecasts and take action if flash flood warnings are
issued or flash flooding develops.

western Louisa... southern Johnson... Washington and southwestern
Muscatine counties until 400 PM CDT...

At 334 PM CDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from near Richmond to near Olds. Movement was
northeast at 30 mph.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Iowa City, Washington, Columbus Junction, Kalona, Lone Tree,
Winfield, University Heights, Riverside, Fruitland, hills, Ainsworth,
Grandview, Conesville, Columbus City, Letts, Nichols, Crawfordsville,
Olds, Cotter and Wyman.

This includes Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 246 and 250.

High temperatures in the mid to upper 80s combined with dewpoints
in the middle to upper 70s, will lead to peak heat indices
between 95 and 100 degrees into the early evening hours. Showers
and thunderstorms along with an approaching front will bring
relief later this evening and into tonight.

If spending time outside this afternoon and evening, be sure to
drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade. Also, never
leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle.
