afternoon...

* what... freezing rain and drizzle. Total ice accumulations of a
light glaze. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

* Where... portions of central, east central and west central
Illinois.

* When... until 4 PM CST this afternoon.

* Additional details... roads, sidewalks, and parking lots could
become slippery in some areas. Conditions should improve later
this morning into this afternoon when temperatures rise above
freezing. Gusty south winds will cause drifting of the snow,
especially in rural areas on east to west roadways, which will
make driving on some country roads tricky.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of freezing rain
will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads. Slow down
and use caution while driving.

... Light ice accumulations possible from 9 am to 4 PM today...

Southeast winds gusting 25 to 35 mph have led to blowing and
drifting snow on roadways, especially in open or rural areas along
and north of I-72 where snow pack is deeper. This is expected to
continue this morning as winds remain gusty. If driving remain
alert for snow covered and slick roads, and periods of reduced
visibility. Be sure to slow down and be prepared for changeable
Road conditions.

In addition, light freezing rain is expected to develop and spread
into areas along and north of I-72 between 9 am and 4 PM today.
Light ice accumulations near a tenth inch or less is expected
before the freezing rain changes to rain by mid or late
afternoon. The highest ice accumulations should be along and north
of a Canton to Bloomington/normal line.
