Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 4:30 AM EST Feb. 21, 2018 – National Weather Service

The Flood Warning continues for
the Eel River at North Manchester
* until late Friday night.
* At 3 am Wednesday the stage was 13.5 feet and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring and record flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will rise to a crest near 16.0 feet around 1
PM Wednesday February 21 and fall below flood stage around 2 am
Friday February 23.
* At 16.0 feet... flood waters approach thrift shop on South Mill
street.

* Flood Warning for urban areas and small streams in...
White County in northwestern Indiana...
Fulton County in North Central Indiana...
Pulaski County in northwestern Indiana...
southern Kosciusko County in North Central Indiana...
Cass County in North Central Indiana...
northwestern Miami County in North Central Indiana...
southern Marshall County in North Central Indiana...

* until 100 am EST Friday/midnight CST Friday/

* trained weather spotters reported heavy rain falling that was
   causing flooding of low lying areas with multiple Road closures
   reported. Widespread two to five inches of rain have already
   fallen with an additional inch of rain likely before ending.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Logansport, Rochester, Monticello, Winona Lake, Winamac, Monon,
Brookston, Akron, Pierceton, Wolcott, Mentone, Francesville, Royal
Center, Medaryville, Pulaski, Walnut, Ripley, Kewanna, Reynolds and
Chalmers.

* Numerous roads are closed due to high water within the warning
area. Nearly all streams... creeks and rivers are in flood or will
flood, some may reach record levels. Anyone living in a low lying
area or locations prone to flooding should move to higher ground
if you have not already done so. Be prepared for high water on
roads and do not attempt to drive through these areas. Find
alternate routes and stay on main roads if possible. Flooding is
difficult to see at night! Flood waters will be slow to recede and
it may take several days in some locations.

* Major flooding is expected along the Tippecanoe river, including
downstream of Norway dam. Please monitor river conditions and
warnings for area rivers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

The weekly radio test normally scheduled on Wednesday between 11
a.M. And noon will be delayed until tomorrow Thursday February
twenty-second. We will then reevaluate if we need to delay the
radio test until next week.
