Flood Warning
Issued: 9:49 PM EST Feb. 18, 2018 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Grand River at Ionia.
* From late Wednesday night until further notice.
* At 8:45 PM Sunday the stage was 12.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 21.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast, rise above flood stage by Thursday morning and continue
to rise to near 22.5 feet by Friday morning.
* Impact, at 23.0 feet... expect moderate flooding of several roads,
businesses, and residences, in the Ionia area and of structures
located in the Ionia Fairgrounds. Water halfway up windows on
automobile building at Ionia Fairgrounds. Water begins to flood
parking lot of dollar general store, save-a-lot, and the Ionia
Secretary of state office. Homes along Quarry Road begin to flood.
* Flood history, this crest compares to a previous crest of 22.5 feet
on Mar 16 1982.

... Flood Watch remains in effect from noon EST today through
Wednesday afternoon...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Michigan, south central Michigan,
southwest Michigan, and west central Michigan, including the
following areas, in central Michigan, Clare, Gratiot,
Isabella, Mecosta, Montcalm, and Osceola. In south central
Michigan, Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, and Jackson.
In southwest Michigan, Allegan, Barry, Kalamazoo, Kent,
Ottawa, and Van Buren. In west central Michigan, Lake, Mason,
Muskegon, Newaygo, and Oceana.

* From noon EST today through Wednesday afternoon

* 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected from today through Wednesday
morning. Locally higher amounts are likely.

* The rainfall, combined with a melting snowpack and a frozen
ground could cause flooding across the area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

* At 09 PM Sunday the stage was 4.1 feet.
* Bankfull stage is 5.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.5 feet.
* Forecast, the river will rise to near 7.4 feet by early Saturday
morning.
* Impact, at 7.0 feet... expect minor flooding of about 30 double r
ranch campground sites and in low lying areas adjacent to the
river.

* Until further notice.
* At 10 PM Sunday the stage was 6.9 feet.
* Bankfull stage is 11.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* Forecast, the river will rise to near 11.7 feet by Thursday
morning.
* Impact, at 12.0 feet... expect minor flooding in the Village of
Lyons and low lying areas adjacent to the river. Two Rivers Park in
Portland flooded.
