The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
eastern Lyon County in northwestern Iowa...
Osceola County in northwestern Iowa...
Dickinson County in northwestern Iowa...
northeastern Sioux County in northwestern Iowa...
Clay County in northwestern Iowa...
O'Brien County in northwestern Iowa...
eastern Rock County in southwestern Minnesota...
Jackson County in southwestern Minnesota...
Nobles County in southwestern Minnesota...

* until 1015 PM CDT Thursday.

* At 1012 PM CDT, emergency management in O'Brien County reported
heavy rain with water over some roads and flooded homes in
Hartley. Broadcast media also reports parts of Highway 18 in
O'Brien and western Clay County are under water. Two to three
inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Worthington, Spencer Iowa, Sheldon, Spirit Lake, Jackson
Minnesota, Sibley, Milford, Lakefield, Hartley, Sanborn, Adrian,
Arnolds Park, Lake Park, George, Bergen, Primghar, Okoboji, Heron
Lake, Sutherland and Orleans.

Additional rainfall amounts of around an inch are possible in the
warned area through midday Thursday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 am CDT this
morning...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, northeast
Nebraska, and southeast South Dakota, including the following
areas, in northwest Iowa, Clay IA, Dickinson, Lyon IA,
O'Brien, Osceola, and Sioux. In southwest Minnesota, Jackson,
Nobles, and rock. In northeast Nebraska, Dakota and Dixon. In
southeast South Dakota, Bon Homme, Clay SD, Hutchinson,
Lincoln SD, Minnehaha, Turner, Union, and Yankton.

* Until 7 am CDT this morning

* rain is ongoing and will continue into Thursday. Several
locations have already picked up in excess of 2 to 4 inches of
rain with an additional half an inch to one inch of rain
possible thru the rest of tonight and into Thursday.

* This long duration rainfall event will bring an increased risk
for river and stream flooding, especially in areas that have
recently received heavy rainfall this week.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
