today to 8 PM CDT /7 PM MDT/ this evening...

* temperatures in the upper 90s to lower 100s will combine with
high humidity for heat index values between 100 to 105.

* Prolonged exposure to heat and humidity may lead to heat-
related illness if precautions are not taken.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and

Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside.
When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety
and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest
breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome
by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat
stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.


Fire Weather Warning

afternoon to 8 PM CDT /7 PM MDT/ this evening for low relative
humidity... gusty southerly winds and the threat for dry lightning
for fire weather zones 204, 206, and 208...

The National Weather Service in North Platte has issued a red
flag warning, which is in effect from 1 PM CDT /noon MDT/ this
afternoon to 8 PM CDT /7 PM MDT/ this evening.

* Affected area... fire weather zone 204.Fire weather zone
206.Fire weather zone 208.

* Wind... south at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

* Humidity... 15 to 20 percent.

* Thunderstorms... dry lightning is a threat initially.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
