Flood Warning
Issued: 12:15 PM EST Jan. 22, 2019 – National Weather Service

The Flood Warning continues for
the Congaree River at Congaree National Park-Gadsden.
* Until further notice, or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 11 am Tuesday the stage was 16.3 feet and rising slowly.
* Minor flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast: the river will continue rising to near 16.7 feet
Wednesday morning then begin falling. The river will recede to
around 15.8 feet by Friday morning, then rise gradually to 17.1
feet by Sunday morning.
* Impacts: at 17.0 feet: the access Road to the Sandy Run subdivision
becomes flooded. The lower boardwalk in the Congaree National Park
becomes flooded by Cedar Creek.
* At 15.0 feet: flooding begins in the Congaree National Park.

1215 PM EST Tue Jan 22 2019

The Flood Warning continues for
the Congaree River at Carolina Eastman.
* Until further notice, or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 9 am Tuesday the stage was 117.5 feet and rising steadily.
* Minor flood stage is 115.0 feet.
* Moderate flood stage is 119.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is possible.
* Forecast: the river will continue rising to near 118.8 feet this
evening then begin falling. The river will recede to near 115.0
feet by Thursday morning then begin a gradual rise to near 119.0
feet by Friday evening. Moderate flooding and a crest near 121.3
feet is possible Saturday night.
* Impacts: at 119.0 feet: extensive flooding occurs in the Congaree
National Park. Some area farmland is flooded. Minor flooding occurs
at the Carolina Eastman facility.
* Impacts: at 115.0 feet: flooding occurs in low lying areas of the
Carolina Eastman facility and at the Congaree National Park.

The flood advisory continues for
the Congaree River at Columbia.
* Through Monday morning or until the advisory is canceled.
* At 11 am Tuesday the stage was 10.8 feet and falling slowly.
* Action/advisory stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flood stage is 19.0 feet.
* Forecast: the river will fall below action/advisory stage Tuesday
evening, slowly recede to near 8.0 feet by Thursday morning, then
rise above action/advisory stage Friday and crest near 16.0 feet
on Saturday.
* Impacts: at 16.0 feet: old State Road, SC 66, below Cayce becomes
flooded.
* At 14.0 feet: roads in low lying areas and swampland
downstream from Columbia become flooded. Most of the Cayce and
West Columbia river walk is flooded.
* At 13.0 feet: flooding occurs in flood prone areas near and
downstream from Columbia. Flooding also occurs over much of the
Cayce and West Columbia river walk.
* At 10.0 feet: flooding occurs in flood prone areas near and
downstream from Columbia. Flooding also occurs on parts of the
Cayce and West Columbia river walk.
