Coastal Flood Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement, Beach Hazard Statement
Issued: 12:08 PM EDT Sep. 25, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory now in effect until 2 am EDT
Wednesday...
... High rip current risk now in effect through late tonight...
... Beach hazards statement remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this
evening...

* location... Accomack County.

* Timing... during high tide through early this afternoon for
areas adjacent the Chesapeake Bay. High rip risk today for
beaches adjacent the Atlantic Ocean, but especially around low
tide this afternoon.

* Coastal flood impacts... shallow flooding is expected in the
most vulnerable locations near the Waterfront and shoreline
resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one
foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable
areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking
lots, Parks and lawns near the Waterfront will experience
shallow flooding.

* Surf or rip current risk... breaking waves of 4 to 5 feet will
result in rough surf conditions and a high risk of rip
currents.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory means that onshore winds... wave action
and/or tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along
the shore... and near tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the
possibility of Road closures and minor flooding of properties. If
travel is necessary... do not attempt to drive through water of
unknown depth.

A beach hazards statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents... longshore currents... sneaker waves and other hazards
create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution
should be used when in or near the water.

Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.
