Watches & Warnings

Special Statement
Issued: 3:17 PM EST Feb. 24, 2018 – National Weather Service

... A shower will affect Randolph... Pocahontas... Nicholas... southern
Lewis... southern Upshur... Webster... southeastern Barbour and northern
Fayette counties...

At 315 PM EST, showers, with very heavy rain, were located 7 miles
northwest of Holly river state, or 14 miles east of Sutton, moving
northeast at 35 mph.

Locations impacted include...
Elkins, Summersville, Richwood, Marlinton, Greenbank, Webster
Springs, Cass Scenic Railroad, Belington, Montgomery, Ansted,
Smithers, Addison (webster springs), Mill Creek, Gauley Bridge,
Camden-On-Gauley, Snowshoe, Dailey, Hawks Nest State Park,
Craigsville and Camden On Gauley.

Very heavy downpours were also occurring with these showers, and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams, and ponding of water on country roads and
farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across
flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of
swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
