Dense fog will continue until mid afternoon in the Nome area with more favorable conditions to the east. Satellite imagery shows the fog offshore east of Cape Nome all the way to Golovin. Pilot reports say the fog is only 500 feet thick and it is clear above. As long as the southerly winds continue to give US onshore flow in Nome the fog will persist. As the afternoon progresses we should see a shift in the wind to a more northerly drift and that will usher out the fog. Temperatures will remain the lower 30s with the fog and approaching the low 40s when the fog exits.
