The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of South Dakota and Wyoming, including the following
areas, in South Dakota, Butte, the central Black Hills, the
Custer County plains, the Fall River County plains, the
Hermosa foot hills, the northern Black Hills, the northern
foot hills, the Rapid City area, the southern Black Hills, the
southern foot hills, and the Sturgis/Piedmont foot hills. In
Wyoming, northeastern Crook County, western Crook County, the
Weston County plains, and the Wyoming Black Hills.

* Until 6 PM MDT this evening

* recent rainfall along with the potential for locally another
half inch of rainfall poses a threat for flooding or flash

* Flooding that develops could wash out roads in low-lying
areas, as well as impact property along creeks, streams, and

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for heavy
rain over the watch area, which may cause flash flooding along
streams, creeks, canyons, and draws. If you are in the watch
area, monitor NOAA Weather Radio and local media for updated
forecasts. Be ready to quickly move to higher ground, if heavy
rain occurs, rising water levels are observed, or a warning is

The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
south central Meade County in west central South Dakota...
southeastern Pennington County in west central South Dakota...

* until 845 PM MDT Wednesday

* at 1145 am MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause
urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area. Up to three
or four inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Rapid Valley, Ellsworth Air Force base, Box Elder, wall, New
Underwood, Union Center, Wasta, Scenic, Quinn, Owanka, Elm Springs,
Caputa, Farmingdale, Wicksville, Curlew Lake, Sheep Mountain Table,
Rapid City Airport, Delta 9 missile silo, Pinnacles Ranger station
and northeastern Badlands National Park.

This includes Interstate 90 in South Dakota between mile markers 62
and 124.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
