Beach Hazard Statement
Issued: 4:42 AM EDT Sep. 24, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Beach hazards statement in effect through this evening...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a beach
hazards statement for rough surf and dangerous rip currents,
which is in effect through this evening.

* Hazards... rough breaking waves and rip currents.

* Timing... breaking waves will be dangerous all day while the
threat of seaward flowing rip currents will be greatest from
late morning through late afternoon due to tidal effects.

* Location... all the beaches of east central Florida.

* Potential impacts... Volusia ocean Rescue reported several dozen
rescues on Sunday. Heavy breaking waves can knock you down and
make you susceptible to seaward flowing rip currents.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Only swim near a lifeguard. Never keep your back turned to the
ocean as heavy breaking waves can suddenly slam into you and cause
severe injury. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't
swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following
the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or
wave for help.
