Sweltering heat happens every summer, but to get close to the bar of a state's all-time hottest temperature usually takes a heat wave that's on another level.

An unsettled weather pattern is setting up as scattered severe storms will be possible across the Plains and Midwest on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. First, a line of storms will develop along a cold front in Iowa Thursday afternoon and then move into Wisconsin Thursday night. Damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes will be possible with places like Waterloo, Mason City, Fort Dodge and Madison most at risk. The severe storm risk and flood threat will shift back to the west Friday and this weekend, and include parts of the Dakotas, Nebraska and Minnesota.

A baby moose reunited with its mother following an ordeal in Homer, Alaska. The baby was trapped underneath a boardwalk, but crews were able to pull it out and release it back to the awaiting mother moose.

Heavy rains caused a landslide in China, causing the Houzi River Bridge to collapse. A truck went over the edge, and the driver hung inside the cabin while rescue crews were dispatched. Luckily, the driver was able to be rescued, but not until after his scary ordeal hundreds of feet in the air.

It was a wild evening of weather Wednesday in southern Minnesota as storms dropped heavy rain and whipped up tornadoes in the region. Thankfully, the tornadoes did minimal damage to homes and businesses. Watch this video to see the twisters that touched down in places like Lake City and Hartland.
