1. North Indian Ocean area (Malay Peninsula west to coast of Africa):
a. Tropical cyclone summary:
(1) at 091800z, tropical cyclone 04a (four) was located near
13.3n 70.9e, approximately 380 nm south-southwest of mumbai, India,
and had tracked northward at 11 knots over the past six hours.
Maximum sustained surface winds were estimated at 35 knots gusting
to 45 knots. See ref a (wtio31 pgtw 092100) for further details.
(2) no other tropical cyclones.
B. Tropical disturbance summary: none.
(1) the area of convection previously located near 12.1n
74.1e, is now the subject of a tropical cyclone warning. See para
1.A.(1) for further details.
2. South Indian Ocean area (135e west to coast of Africa):
a. Tropical cyclone summary: none.
B. Tropical disturbance summary:
(1) the area of convection previously located near 4.0s 73.1e
is now located near 4.2s 74.4e, approximately 225 nm north-northeast
of Diego Garcia. The low level circulation center (LLCC) remains
intact despite excessive vertical wind shear. Convection has been
unable to organize around the LLCC due to this shear. The most
recent Quikscat image at 090108z still indicates a LLCC as strong as
25 to 30 knots. Maximum sustained surface winds are estimated at 25
to 30 knots. Minimum sea level pressure is estimated to be near 1001
mb. The potential for the development of a significant tropical
cyclone within the next 24 hours remains poor.
(2) no other suspect areas.
3. Justification for reissue: upgraded the area in para 1.B.(1) to
tropical cyclone warning status.//
